BID Shkodra

Status Completed
Budget Committed 900,000 USD

The original template for the BID/TID Model in Albania

The history of adopting the BID/TID model in Albania began with the city of Shkodra, and it has proven to be a remarkable success story. The AADF Board of Trustees committed a total of $900,000 to bring this groundbreaking project to fruition. Shkodra served as both the genesis and the proving grounds that would shape the future of the Business Improvement District (BID) model in Albania.

The groundwork was laid in early 2012 with a comprehensive improvement of the physical infrastructure along two main pedestrian boulevards in the city center. It restored the area to its former glory days as an urban hub of commercial and intellectual activity and a center for social interaction.

The establishment of the BID association followed immediately after the restoration of the physical infrastructure. Working closely with the Municipality of Shkodra and the local business community, the AADF has organized more than 120 events since the inception of BID Shkodra. The vibrant economic and cultural landscape has not only drawn more visitors but has also led to the establishment of numerous new businesses in the city of Shkodra. The AADF offered advisory services and grants to over 30 businesses, and it continues to support BID Shkodra by assisting it in meeting the requirements of the BID law.

Today, BID Shkodra has become the focal point of a city reclaiming its status as a destination of great potential for tourists and Albanians. Shkodra currently offers a diverse array of opportunities for both business and tourism, illustrating the profound impact that the BID/TID model can have in revitalizing urban centers throughout Albania.
