Vlora’s Rich Historical Heritage in a Contemporary Setting

TID Vlora harmoniously integrates several significant historical landmarks into its surroundings, including the Justin Godart Buildings Ensemble, the Clocktower, the Historical Museum, the Jewish Street, the Ethnographic Museum, and various other notable sites. These landmarks not only represent the rich cultural heritage of the city but also hold historical significance as they served as a backdrop to the birth of independent Albania.

The primary objective of the TID Vlora project was to revitalize the area, aiming to boost tourism and stimulate economic development. This was accomplished through the restoration, conservation, and rehabilitation of traditional houses and areas of cultural heritage. Additionally, new facilities and services were introduced to enhance the overall experience for visitors to the TID area.

The restoration works were executed in two phases. The project’s first phase, funded by AADF, concluded in 2019, followed by further support from the Municipality of Vlora and the Albanian Government, culminating in the project’s finalization in 2023.

Upon completion of the restoration works, a significant number of local businesses received assistance to enhance their current premises or launch new locations. The establishment of the TID Vlora Association has enabled more than 150 local businesses to jointly manage and oversee the tourism improvement district in partnership with the Municipality of Vlora.

The collaborative efforts of the AADF and all other stakeholders have led to a cleaner, safer, and more appealing area, fostering an environment where businesses can thrive and visitors can enjoy an outstanding experience worth sharing.
