Culture & Eco-Tourism Albanian Jewish Museum Status On Going Budget Committed 6.5 million USD Honoring a Legacy of Solidarity, Humanism, and Resilience. There has never been any trace of discrimination against Jews in Albania. Albanians not only protected the Jewish citizens during the German occupation, but also provided sanctuary to Jewish refugees who arrived from various other European countries. The Albanian Jewish Museum is a vital component of the AADF’s cultural heritage and ecotourism portfolio and plays an integral role in the revitalization of Vlora’s Historical Center. As the first of its kind in Albania and the region, this museum will function as a cultural hub and set a new benchmark for museums in Albania, encompassing aspects such as management, architecture, exhibitions, and education. The conceptual framework of the project envisions the creation of a 21st-century museum that is intimately linked to the location, the people who once called it home, and those who reside there today. It aspires to be an inclusive and welcoming space, not just in physical accessibility but also in intellectual engagement. This museum aims to be a destination for tourists, a source of local pride, and a means for Albanian Jews to reestablish their connection with their historical heritage. Providing its wholehearted support for the establishment of the Albanian Jewish Museum represents a unique and meaningful opportunity for the AADF, not only due to the museum’s importance as a crucial cultural institution but also because of the powerful narrative it will share. It will shed light on Albania’s deep-rooted traditions of solidarity and humanism, showcasing the exceptional connection between Albanians and the Jewish community to the world.
