Revitalizing Durrës Historic Center

In response to the devastating earthquake that struck Durrës in November of 2019, the Albanian-American Development Foundation extended its relief efforts beyond emergency interventions and devised a long-term solution to address the city’s enduring development needs.

Durrës holds significant economic importance owing to its advantageous geographic location, tourism potential, and rich cultural heritage. In this context, the project aims to revitalize the long-neglected Durres historic center and boost tourism and economic activity through the implementation of a successful TID model.

The AADF aims to provide an Integrated Management Plan that will revitalize Durrës Historic Center and restore its long-neglected cultural heritage. The goal is to establish a successful TID model that will harness the untapped potential of tourism opportunities that Durrës offers.

Ultimately, the TID Durrës project envisions putting Durrës back on the map of European cultural and historic tourist destinations, as well as providing tangible opportunities for local communities to derive economic benefits from their city’s rich cultural and historic heritage.
